Butadiene Unit
Butadiene Unit of Jam Petrochemical Company operates under BASF Germany license and LURGI basic engineering, detailed engineering by Namvaran engineers.
With an annual production capacity of 115,000 tons, it is a model unit in the country in terms of production, product purity, and quality, and is one of the most valuable units of Jam Petrochemical.
The BD unit is divided into the following sections:
1- Plant unit
2- Storage facilities
3- Separation
Butadiene cannot be separated from C4 cuts by ordinary and simple distillation because most C4 cut components have close boiling points and there is a possibility of azeotrope formation.
BASF utilized the higher volatility of some components in a selective solvent. This selective solvent is called NMP (N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone), containing approximately 8.3% water by weight, and is used as the selective solvent in extractive distillation stages.
Raw butadiene is obtained by extractive distillation and purified in the distillation stage.
